Can I afford therapy?

Finding affordable psychotherapy can sometimes seem like an oxymoron. Fortunately, today you don't have to choose between your other financial responsibilities and therapy because there are so many options.

  • Private/Commercial Health Insurance Plans .  The plans are defined as any type of health benefit not obtained from medicare.  The insurance is generally employer sponsored or privately purchased.  Services are provided for and insured for only a small out pocket copayment and sometimes with no copayment required.   The following plans are currently accepted at Kris Parker & Associates.

Humana HMO or PPO
United Healthcare/United Behavioral Health HMO or PPO
Value Options
New Directions
Aetna PPOs
Cigna PPOs
Blue Cross Blue Shield PPOs
*We accept most EAP's

Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). An EAP is a benefit program offered by many employers. These plans are intended to help employees deal with personal problems that may adversely impact their job performance, health and well being by providing brief counseling at no cost to the employee whatsoever. Just like health insurance companies, EAPs have a directory of "in network providers" in your area. Check with the human resources officer at your place of employment to find out if this option is available for you.

Reduced Fee Scale/Sliding Scale  Some private therapists will offer a reduced fee to clients through a sliding scale program.   The sliding scale is a very common and acceptable form of fee arrangement.   Through a simple application process, an individual seeking therapy can pay a more affordable rate in a way that is tailored for their income.   Kris Parker & Associates offers a private sliding scale .

Community Based Treatment. Less expensive than private practioners, community based agencies are usually funded by government subsidies.   Psychiatric care is provided at very affordable rates that are determined through a financial assistance process.  The community based agency serving the Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee county areas is New Horizons of the Treasure Coast.
